Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen (Dr.Theol.Habil., University of Helsinki) is Professor of Systematic Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA and Docent of Ecumenics at the University of Helsinki. A native of Finland, he has also lived and taught theology in Thailand. He has authored about 200 articles and essays as well as more than ten books, including Trinity and Religious Pluralism (Ashgate) and The Trinity, Global Perspectives (WJKP). He is also the editor of Holy Spirit and Salvation, in the series The Westminster Collection of Sources of Christian Theology, as well as co-editor of The Global Dictionary of Theology (IVP). Dr. Kärkkäinen has participated widely in the ecumenical, theological, and interreligious work of the World Council of Churches, Faith and Order, as well as several international bi-lateral dialogues.
He is currently working with the five-volume series titled Constructive Christian Theology for the Pluralistic World (Eerdmans 2012-18), the first volume of which, Christ and Reconciliation, will be released in Fall 2012; the second volume, Trinity and Revelation is scheduled to be released in Fall 2013. In this project, Christian constructive theology is attempted in a robust interdisciplinary and interreligious environment.
The focus of the research at the Center in Fall 2012 is related to the preparation of the third volume, Creation and Humanity, focusing on the interdisciplinary investigation of theological anthropology with a special interest in the contributions of neurosciences for Christian understanding of human beings.
