President, Biola University
Barry Corey is the 8th president of Biola University. Since he began serving in 2007, President Corey has guided Biola through a season of continued growth and increasing academic strength. As Biola president, Barry is currently spearheading the university’s largest-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign, “A Soul of Conviction, A Voice of Courage,” a $180 million campaign to advance the university’s ambitious plans.
Barry received his B.A. from Evangel University, his M.A. and Ph.D. from Boston College, and was also a Fulbright Scholar in Bangladesh with Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee in 1990-91.
It was during this time in Bangladesh that a pivotal conversation with his father Hugh Corey inspired Barry to consider Matthew 10:40 and the call to live “the receivable life.”
This idea has been central to Dr. Corey’s vision for Biola University to model a more “receivable” Christianity in our changing world, a vision he elaborates on in his recently released book, Love Kindness: Discover the Power of a Forgotten Christian Virtue, which explores the radical call of kindness and the importance of living with “a firm center and soft edges.”
